January 30, 2023
For the first edition of “Featured Solution of the Week”, we’re taking a deep dive in the free CRM stack ideal for solopreneurs, freelancers and startups. It starts with Notion and gets a bolt on from Tally.so. CRM short for Customer Relationship Management refers to the technology that’s being used to manage interactions with existing and potential clients. Therefore, at its core and for early stage startups, freelancers and solopreneurs the solution doesn’t need to be overly complicated. With many solutions catering to larger enterprises, early stage companies resort to spreadsheets in MS Excel and/or Google sheets. This is where the Notion CRM offers a quick, free and big bang for buck upgrade. Why? Notion is known to many for it’s note taking abilities. Much less known is it’s strongly underrated, no nonense CRM. In essence Notion is a no code, web application for note taking that offers tons of templates. In it’s free version, the CRM templates can be easily obtained, modified and shared with up to 10 people. As you can see in the image below, the template offers some structure, that can be adapted and each client will have their own, dedicated card. Notion also offers other CRM templated designed by outside designers that can be obtained for a fee.
While Notion allows for some automation, namely messaging via Slack and email, automation is also it’s biggest limitation. Unlike many other “real” CRMs, you can’t tag your emails nor are there many of the other convenient integrations available. One integration, that is very appealing for solopreneurs and startups is that of Tally.so. Tally.so offers the possibility to capture client data via forms/questionnaires. One possible avenue where this can be imagined useful, is when client visit your website/certain page and are able to fill in a (free) form created via Tally.so. Upon completion the client data will be synced to your Notion database that serves as a base for your CRM. To conclude, Notion a tool that many already use for note taking, offers a free, intuitive CRM. No installations or integrations are needed and getting started takes less time than reading this review!
