Pitch - PowerPoint on steroids!
February 08, 2023
For the second edition of “Featured Solution of the Week”, we’re taking a closer look at Pitch - a collaborative presentation software for modern teams. Pitch came on my radar as I had a presentation/pitch to give on a relatively new subject, slightly different than a classical sales pitch. So, as any productive and lazy person does, I searched for a solution that could help me with this. Sure, PowerPoint exists. However, PowerPoint does come with some drawbacks, especially when starting from scratch. Firstly, I’d have to find the “ideal” story line for this pitch. Secondly, finding the right layout is always painful. That latter part becomes increasingly important for a non-creative and paralysis through analysis would most certainly set in. Pitch brands itself as a “collaborative presentation software for modern teams”. While I didn’t get around to testing that to its full extent, I can see why this would be true. 3 minutes after visiting their website, I made a free account, and I had access to my personal workspace. Within that workspace, there’s a wide selection of predesigned presentations available and I was pleasantly surprised by the different storylines. Getting to the story! Although typically you should master your subject, having the storylines available, helps with structuring your thoughts, especially when in a pinch for time. The preset storylines give you the broad branches on which you can build your story. And, if you don’t agree, you just delete the slide! After a few hours of deep work, I finished my presentation. As a bonus, I didn’t have too waste much time on editing. This had to with the initial design working well for me, as well as the solution being dummy proof. I did notice that I was constantly working online. Hence, I had questions around working and presenting whilst being offline. The free version, which I tested, lets you download your deck in PDF. The first paid tier, which starts at £8/user/month, allows you to download the presentation to PowerPoint as well. There is however another workaround for working offline. Pitch recommends using their desktop app and preloading the presentations you may want to work on. Whilst not always ideal, tools such as Notion work in similar fashion, and the workforce is getting used to this. In an alternate world, when collaborating with others, you’d be downloading the latest PowerPoint presentation of a shared drive. That doesn’t sound much better. Too wrap it up, I’ve only tested Pitch for myself, and therefore certainly haven’t explored the full capability of Pitch. However, the first experiences were great, the immediate added value was incredible. And therefore I decided to make it our featured solution of the week and make it a part of the ideal “Startup Sales Stack”.
